It sounds like he was mad, hurt at you and lashed out not meaning the cruel thing he said. I say mean things when I am mad, things I dont mean. It sounds like he does care for you. Something just upset him, made him mad, maybe hurt him, and he was trying to hurt you. Ask him why he said what he said, and tell him it hurt you. Tell him in the future when you fight to say things that are truthful and dont say things just to hurt you. Use reasoning because next time he might not be given the chance to apologize. Work it out if you truly want him back, if not tell him goodbye.
