Actually, the presiding bishop at the trial of Joan in 1431 quickly threw out the allegations that Joan was a witch. She was examined and found to be a virgin and the belief at the time was that a woman could not become a witch unless she had sex with the devil. Joan was found to be a virgin, The bishop tried unsuccessfully to find that she was a heretic but Joan said not one word that was contrary to Church teaching. He then found an obscure mandate in the Old Testament forbidding women to wear men's clothing and prosecuted her on this. She was forced to sign an agreement to stop wearing the clothing of a man but was tricked into doing so. She was found guilty of being a relapsed heretic because of this and burned at the stake. An investigation 25 years after her death cleared Joan of all charges.
Joan was born on January 6, 1412, at Greux-Domremy, Lorraine, France
Joan was not executed for witchcraft. She was executed under the pretense of being a heretic by a bishop who supported the British who Joan was trying to drive out of France. About 20 years after her execution she was totally exonerated of all charges against her. Unfortunately, this came too late to save Joan. Joan of Arc died on May 30, 1431.
