If the decal on the plastic in front of the handlebars is missing which has the date of manufacture then the easiest way to find the year is to look at the decal on the rope starter of the engine. If the serial number starts with 98 it is a 1998 engine, 00 is a 2000, 01 is 2001. The serial number for the machine is a 17 digit number stamprd on the lower left frame tube behind the L.F. wheel and the 10th digit tells the year just like a car.
