I'm South Korean :). Just to let you know, im not going to state my opinions about North Korea.
First, South Korea wasn't invaded by North Korea. It was just one Korea and they weren't divided yet. Before splitting, the Koreans were controlled by the Japanese. After winning the war with the Japanese, the Koreans had another problem. The problem was that Koreans had different belief. The different belief caused them the separate along with the leaders. The South Koreans were Christian and North Koreans were Buddhist. The different belief among the Koreans just got them separated.
Korea was divided at the end of WW2 in 1945. The Soviets (Russians) declared war on Japan right after the Atomic Bomb was dropped in August 1945; the Soviets (Russians) hurried into North Korea, the US hurried into South Korea; battle lines for the Cold War were drawn up at that time. The same thing occurred in Germany; the Soviets (Russians) hurried into East Germany, and the US/Allies hurried into West Germany. Cold War battle lines were drawn at the East/West German line in 1945.

No, not as of this date. But it should be.
North Korea is not a country from the perspective of South Korea. It was officially recognized as a country when it entered the United Nations in 1992 along with the South. Japan still do not officially admit as a nation because it regards South Korea as the legitimate representative of Korean Peninsula.
July 27, 1953 The United States, North Korea and China sign an armistice, which ends the war but fails to bring about a permanent peace. To date, the Republic of Korea (South) and Democratic Peoples' Republic of Korea (North) have not signed a peace treaty. North and South Korea did sign a non-aggression treaty in 1991. Carolina never really split. The original colonies were always refered to as the carolinas, and were formed at the same time indepentedently.

If you split the Earth in two horizontally, at the Equator, it is in the Northern hemisphere. If you split it vertically (north to south), it is in the Western hemisphere. The vertical split would be at the Prime Meridian & the International Date Line. Try these webpages: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hemisphere http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_Hemisphere
