As far as I'm able to determine, the first method was to film it off a kinescope tube. Some of the older Jackie Gleason Honeymooner's were kinescope'd as well as some of… the earlier Twilight Zone episodes. One of the way you can tell, is in the contrast ratio of the images, in that they're more `contrasty' in appearance. Later, that method (1956/57) was replaced with video tape and the video was transferred to be archived and used over and over and over and over and over again. Just ask the Sci-Fi channel.
It was called Cinescope. They put a cine camera in front of a TV monitor and filmed it! Perhaps kinescope is a preferred spelling. See: http://www.museum.tv/arc…hives/etv/K/htmlK/kinescope/kinescope.htm

The BBC began broadcasting television in 1928 although they were no more than test broadcasts in that year. 1929 saw the first scheduled broadcasts but the schedule was far fr…om a 24 hour service. It was limited to just a few hours each week. The viewing public was limited as well. The televisions were very expensive and only the wealthy could justify such an investment for such a limited service.
The first public television broadcast was in January 1929 when the BBC began transmitting television from their studios in London, England. They used the television system dev…eloped by John Logie Baird earlier in the decade called the "Televisor". Recording television signals was some 15 years away at that time so all broadcasts we live as there was no alternative. Ampex introduced the first video recorder in the 1950s to allow programs to be stored easily for the first time.
The first demonstration of color television happened in 1928 when John Logie Baird showed off his Televisor system modified for color. Although the Televisor was electro-mecha…nical, the principles used remain in place today. It was purely experimental at that stage. The US were the first to enjoy color broadcasts commercially with RCA starting regular broadcasts in color in 1954. Europe had to wait some time longer for color with the BBC sending out their new color transmission in 1967.
