Your transmission is "sticking" sometimes a fluid and filter change can resolve this problem for a short time however is this does not help there is a solenoid in the trans that needs replacing any transmission shop can preform this solenoid swap relatively cheap and most have the capability to diagnose this problem for free
If the automatic transmission car jerks when accelerating and the dash does not indicate a gear, there is a problem with the transmission. Check the shift solenoid.

Remove the engine and drive shaft
Drive 1 locks the automatic transmission into first gear (preventing an upshift). Very good to use when parked or stopped on a very steep slope and you need to move forward and do not want the transmission to shift. Drive 2 locks the automatic transmission into second gear. This is sometimes referred to as a "snow" drive position, as it causes the engine power to be applied to the wheels much more slowly (via converter slippage within the transmission) minimizing actual wheel-spin when accelerating from a stopped position.
If it is a standard shift and not an automatic, yes as long as you put it in neutral. If it is an automatic you can disconnect the drive shaft. Otherwise you cannot tow it or you will damage the transmission as it will overheat.
