According to our understanding of physics (which is always susceptible to modification in the light of new facts), no physical object can ever travel AT the speed of light. As physical objects are accelerated to NEARLY the speed of light, the perception of time begins to slow down, and if we ever were to reach the speed of light, time would stop completely.
This "slowing of time with high velocity" is an observable fact; this DOES happen. While no humans have ever traveled at any fraction of the speed of light, scientists like Einstein and Hawking have proposed "thought experiments" in which they think through what would happen. To the observer, everything will continue to appear normal - to THEMSELVES.
