It still is.... all over the world there are people enslaved.

Slavery has been a human concept since time immemorial - humans treat each other abysmally. The weak and powerless are an easy target.

In 'developed' countries slavery has been illegal for some time.

But there are forms of enslavement which are still legal.... there are many states that turn a blind eye to those employers who use the labour of illegal immigrants - at inhuman rates of 'pay' - to perform tasks that the citizens of that state declines to do.

When we buy cheap clothes we are most likely supporting the enslavement of the workers in foreign sweat-shops who are employed in appalling conditions.
