According to The Bible... "...SIN IS the TRANSGRESSION OF THE LAW." (I John 3:4)
Paul tells us that law is the Ten Commandments.
"What shall we say then? Is the law sin? GOD FORBID. Nay, I had not known sin, but BY the law: for I had not known LUST, except the law had said, THOU SHALT NOT COVET." (Rom.7:7)
The law that says "thou shalt not covet" is the "tenth commandment." These laws "define" sin... according to the Bible. The punishment [or the wages we earn] for the breaking of these laws is "death." That makes them "deadly."
Therefore, the "deadly sins" listed in the Bible are found in Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5... but, they are "Ten"... not seven.

The "Seven Deadly Sins" are mentioned nowhere in the Bible as a group. Rather, every sin which is mentioned in the Bible was said to qualify as one of these seven types. They are categories into which the various other sins can be classified and described. These classifications originated later as scholars attempted to better study, understand, and explain the subject of Sin.
The Bible does not list 'sins.' It states plainly that:1 John 3:4New King James Version (NKJV) Sin and the Child of God4 Whoever commits sin also commits lawlessness, and sin is lawlessness. The list of 7 (originally 8) 'deadly' sins may be googled. They are from man and not from the Scripture.
There are too many stories that contain jealousy to COUNT in the Bible. This is due to the nature of humans to want what they cannot have. Even in the Bible, no one is perfect, therefore they succumb to humanity, and humans cannot help but sometimes be overcome by the seven deadly sins: lust, envy (jealousy), gluttony, sloth, wrath, pride, and greed.
There are no such "seven deadly sins" mentioned in the bible (as in the translations such as the NIV, King James, Good News, etc.) - I hear it's a Roman Catholic teaching but can't vouch for that.If that makes you feel better, you won't like what the bible does say about sin: that the wages of sin are death - and that doesn't matter whether the sin is mass murder or stealing Mars bars, or that only sins as an adult count - you're either guilty or your're not. Furthermore, the bible says that all mankind has sinned and fallen short of the standard of God; our selfish natures can't help but sin, against each other, against ourselves, against God, so ultimately we're all doomed to death of the soul.If that's the case, they why are Christians, who understand this better than most, so full of praise to God for what seems to us an impossible situation? I won't spoil it for you by doing the answer injustice in a few sentances, I just suggest you go ask a few how they can acknowledge their own sinfulness in the light of God's holiness yet be so happy. Good news indeed!
he who is free of sins trow the first stones
