Find the actual file in the directory, right click on it and select "delete". A confirmation question may appear, click on yes, and it's gone. Actually, it isn't really gone, rather it goes into the "recycle folder" and sits there until it is blasted away by you later on.
left click once, hit the delete key
To find missing file you must go to System Restore in a windows computer (I think its only windows) and select a date to a file that's been deleted. To reach the file the fastest was go to search and SYstem Restore
The recycling icon, if they are not there, they have been purged so unless they have been stored on the internet as well they are gone forever.
Not necessarily. If you did delete them and empty the recycle bin you can recover them by using a Data/File recovery program. You can download a free one off of the internet. I highly recommend Recuva.

It goes to the Recycle Bin, of course. Then if you delete it the second time (from the Bin), it gets deleted as if you'd deleted it in DOS - which is to say it gets marked as deleted; you can restore it if you don't overwrite it first, and you need to supply the first letter of the file name.
A file extention isn't needed but when your the file has a file extention the computer can easily find the appropiate program to run it. If a file doesnt have a file extension the computer will require you to find the appropiate program with means more work for you to do
