The "Highgate Manor" and "The Mayfair House" are actually 2 separate places. The "Highate Manor" was originally built by cpt Steve Keyes, who along with his family are buried in the grave yard of the Episople church in Highgate Falls. The "Mayfair House" was actaully across the park from the manor and was the residence of Steve Keyes' parents.

Dr John (?) Baxter took ownership of the manor around 1870 where he took up practice. DR Baxter is alos buried in the grave yard behinfd the church in Highgate Falls.

After the death of Dr. Baxter the building was taken over by Philip Schmitt who turned the Manor into a vacation resort (1920's). When the business boomed, he needed more space so he expanded the business into the homestead across the park, calling it the "Mayfair House" also known as the "Manor Annex". Also at that time a new building was built next to the "Mayfair House" for hosting large gatherings. The "Mayfair House" and reception hall burnt to the ground in the 50's.

During the 1960's an addition was built on the North side of the Manor, which was used as a reception fall. When that business failed the Manor was sold and turned into appartments.

During the Mid-late 70's the reception hall was converted and used as a disco called the "1818 Manor"

Does this answer the question enough ?

In the late 1980's a woman from Texas moved to Vermont for the Manor, her reasoning was to run it as a restaurant. She found the Manor if rough shape and worked to repair it. Being new in town, not many knew who she was but that didn't stop Peggy Craker from opening her new business. When she opened things started slow, but soon started booming. She ran the Manor for a while until she became pregnant, and could no longer cook. The lot then sat vacant for a few years until bought by...

Mike Perry and Jeff Gonyaw bought the house and restored it to the old Victorian charm. Check out this article http://www.samessenger.com/70904.HTML They then re-opened the manor for weddings and banquets and Bed & Breakfast. The guys were into purchasing abandoned houses and fixing them up. They then had their sights on another property in East Berkshire Vermont. Which, they ended up selling the manor to two women, who tried to contiue the same buisness. However, the women drove the buisness into the ground because of their buisness ethics. The girls then later sold the Manor to a young couple who are working on fixing the manor back up and then re-opening it again.
