Iroc-Z's use the standard GM 18436572 firing order. Most Chilton's manuals show you how to set up the timing by dropping in the distributor and bringing the #1 cylinder up to Top Dead Center on the compression stroke. Then verify that your pointer is at 0 deg's on the timing tab. Once that is verified you can drop in your distributor with the rotor pointing at 3 o clock as viewed from the front of the engine. Put your cap on and screw it down and put on the #1 plugwire on top of the terminal and follow the firing order in till you get all 8 on. Once the plug wires are on you can tighten the screw down just enought to hold the distributor as so you can turn it to adjust the timing once you fire the engine. Place the remaining wiring connectors on such as tach and electronics. You can only dial in the initial 6-8 degrees of timing since it is an electronic system that is managed by a module. I don't have a diagram but this may help you. The firing order on this engine is 1-6-5-4-3-2. The distributor rotates clockwise, and the #1 cylinder is located driver's side front of engine. Remove the #1 spark plug and turn the engine until the piston is at TDC (Top Dead Center) on the compression stroke. Once you get the piston at TDC look inside the distributor. The rotor will be pointing to the # 1 plug connection. The next connection going around clockwise is # 6 and the next is # 5, etc.
