Many thought they were being re-settled in the east. This is why Auschwitz has a massive collection of pots and pans and household items on display; because the victims thought that they would need them in their new houses.

many of them were being told that they were being re-settled in the east, hence why so many arrived with pots and pans and all manner of things needed to set up a household. Some even paid for their tickets and travelled in normal passenger trains (contrary to popular belief they were not all transported in box-cars).

The camp was made to look like a train station. So when the trains "delivering" the Jews arrived, they believed they were safe.

What do you think of allies decision to focus on winning the war rather than immediately trying to save the people in Nazi death camps?

Because they did not know what was going on in the camps, they thought it was more of a prison camp than a death camp

What city were Jews taken to death camps?

Just about every city on the planet. Given the category, I think you're talking about Auschwitz.

Why did Paul McCartney stay away from the public when John Lennon died?

How many camps were built during world war 2?

There were thousands of camps all over Germany a long time before they started building the true death camps. If you tap in concentration camps into any web search engine, it will show you a map of the camps. They were not all death camps, but were camps for Germans who were not Nazi's, and were used for, what they called 're-training'. IF you were released, and still able to think or even walk, you made sure you followed the rules and joined the 'Nazi Party' and kept your thoughts, to yourself in future.

Why were death camps necessary?

That is an unexpected Question. To the sane person, there is no justification for having Death Camps. Only someone with the mind of Hitler could think that death camps were the best solution for the world's problems. Hitler could have used these people as slave labor without killing them. That makes a lot more sense. He was out to change the culture and race of Europe and he thought the best method to do this was to eliminate people he classified as inferior.

Did people in the death camps during the holocaust go crazy?

I would think so. Probably some of them did from being there so long.

When during the Holocaust was the death march?

Death marches were the marching of inmates from one concentration camp to another.

What were the conditions in the Concentrations Camps?

It depended what camp you were in. The true conditions can only be related by someone who was interred in one of them. From what I have read the conditions were inhumane to the point of death. People were starved, beaten, raped, experimented on, and eventually put to death in cruel and evil ways. Ovens were always going, burning the dead. I can't begin to think that I have even an inkling of the Horror and evil that existed there. If you think I have painted a morbid picture, I have. There is no payment big enough for what was done!

What did the Jews think might be the reason for their deportation?

There were told that they were being 'resettled' in Eastern Europe. According to those people in the extermination camps who sorted the possessions that Jews took with them there were a large number of cooking utensils, and also musical instruments. This suggests that some of the Jews deported to the camps at least thought they might be starting a new life in Eastern Europe. The Jews thought that they were being sent to work camps, and not to death camps.

Why did two world wars start in Europe?

I think because of the Holocaust, most of the concentration camps were in Europe.
