There is no oil to be checked, it's a 2 cycle so the system gets it's lube that way.

No oil in crankcase in a Harley Big Twin. All FXR's take three quarts in the oil tank.
I think they were the same style until 1987 and changed in 1988. So I think that a side crankcase cover will fit and if I'm not mistaken the VT750 will fit as well. Hope this helps.
