The bottom of the canister is vented to the atmosphere.
Fuel leak? Bad charcoal canister? Running rich? Dose it happen when you drive with the window open if it dose it is the seal on the tank needs replacing as ive got that on my citreon at the mo worse when the summer comes
The bottom one
from my past experience its one of two things : 1. someone left the gas cap loose after fueling clear the code and drive after tightening gas cap. 2. you have a defective solenoid or broke hose or item in the evap sys . only two ways to check a smoke machine for evap systems or a vaccum pump for evap sysytems. its possible to have a sticking vent solenoid but that requires a smoke/vaccum tool and a scanner that can activate a solenoid. cheaper to go to the dealer, than spend thousands buying tools. The Hyundai Accent and Elantra often have a problem with the charcoal canister becoming plugged. On the driver side of the car in back by the gas tank there will be the canister and hoses coming out of it. Pinch the hoses with your fingers and listen for a crunching noise. If you hear it disconnect the hose and little charcoal pellets will run out of it. If so then you need a new charcoal canister. They cost around $125 and can be found online or at a Hyundai dealer.

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"Check Engine / Trac off" warning lights came on at the same, but the car runs fine. It is possibly either the "Oxygen Sensors" or "Gas Cap" didn't get tighten enough. I would take it to an automobile arts place like Autozone they will do the diags usually for free and then you would and have the computer codes to help narrow down the problem. OS Sensor will run you around $90-$135 just for the part. It's ok to drive the car; it will not hurt the vehicle. Goodluck I do want to add want thing and that is you need to read the code to see what it is. Right, it could be as simple as an O2 sensor (perhaps code ..041) or more complicated (code P0446), a gas cap and/or a charcoal canister replacement. UPDATE: I had a code P0446. First replaced the gas cap, $30 from Lexus dealer, but did not help. Replaced charcoal/vapor canister ($350 from Toyota dealer using part number written on the canister). Bingo, both CEL AND Trac off went away!. However, replacing the canister took me about 3 hrs as it's located near the gas tank and above the rear axle--what a pain.
