Where is England in the world?

England is in the northern hemisphere just north of France by the English channel. It is the furthest point west of Europe. England is part of Britain which consists of England, Scotland and Wales.

England is actually the fourth most westerly country in Europe. The most westerly point of Europe is Cabot da Rocha in Portugal. To the west of England lies the island of Ireland, which is divided into the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

England, like Britain, is not a political entity. It is a constituent part of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom, England is the only one that does not have its own parliament or government.

Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have the ability, to a greater or lesser extent, to pass laws affecting their countries in their own assemblies independently of English MPs. However laws affecting England are passed MPs from all four countries. Unlike the other three countries, England does not have its own national anthem, nor does it have a public holiday to celebrate its patron saint
