You have to remove the interior surround and rubber boot from around the gear shifter. Once this is off, there is a kind of plate on the floor and you remove this. Once all this stuff is removed, you should be looking down outside the truck and you'll be face to face with the tranny. Right on top is the switch, and a lot of tims it's not bad. You just need to disconnect the wiring harness and clean the connections. If this doesn't help, then replace the switch. ~ Tim ~
on the transmssion, no matter which of the 3 (3sp,4ps, 5sp) its really a reverse switch, see? reverse gear engaged switch.
The backup sensor is inside the transmission.
There is a backup light switch on the transmission.
replae backup light switch on transmission
The switch for the backup light switch for an automatic transmission is located on the transmission where the shifting cable enters the transmission (The side of the transmission closest to the radiator),how about for the manual trans mission models?
screwed into the transmission.
on the side of the transmission
The backup light switch is mounted on the transmission casing.
its on the front of the transmission, near the trans pan
left side of transmission
You would have to literally run a wire from the battery through a fuse and then to a toggle switch and then on to the backup lights, this will only function when the switch is on and will have nothing to do with the transmission being in reverse. This is essentially the same as putting a toggle switch across the transmission mounted switch (assuming the transmission switch is not shorted).
You have to remove the the tailgate trim to access the bulb.
