I had a heck of a time finding it in my 1988. Keep in mind that the engine sits in there sideways, so the "back" of the engine, or flywheel is actually on the driver's side (the front is on the passenger side). The starter for any vehicle is at the flywheel. Raise the vehicle and crawl underneath from the front on the driver's side. Look for the oil filter. Slightly above and to your left (toward the driver's side wheel well) is the starter. It looks to me like you'll need to drain the motor oil and remove the oil filter to have room to remove the starter.
Where is starter on a 4 cylinder mazda 626?
Where is the thermostat located on a 1999 Mazda 626?
It is located under the manifold, almost in the middle of the engine. Easiest access from underneath.
On top of the transmission on the drivers side under the intake box
its in the back of the rear left tire on top
Where is the cabin filter located on a 2002 Mazda 626?

You must remove the airbox assembly to access the starter from above
Where is the thermostat located on a mazda 626 2002
On a typical 4-cylinder 626, the starter motor is located on the lower end of the engine, to the right of the transaxle (removal would require raising the vehicle and properly securing it with appropriate jack stands). On a typical v6 626, the starter motor is located beneath the throttle position sensor, knock sensor, distributor, and other electrical connectors that interfere with the proper removal. acc083
the starter is in the front of the engine on the bottom,on the 4 cylinder.follow the cable from the battery +.
