I have already gone through the discovery process and replacement of the water pump in my 99' STS, so here it is.
When you open the hood it will be in the right front corner of the engine compartment. It runs off of the cam that that is on the back, right side of the engine (if you look at the engine from the front. Transverse mounted engine puts it in the front right of the engine compartment). There is a black, metal shroud covering it. Remove the shroud and you will see something that looks nothing like a water pump. You need a special extraction tool that can be rented from an auto parts store. Can't do it without it. It attaches to a socket wrench I think. The threads are reversed, so be careful not to strip it. Once you start you will see how simple it is.

How do you change the gas pump on a 99 sts cadillac?
Well for one i think its known as a fuel pum, and in 99 sts's theres a trap door with like 6-8 screws in the back right hand corner of the trunk, just lift up the carpet on you'll see it, remove the screws and the fuel pump is right there
