I just replaced mine on a 1998 contour 2.2 4cyl. Take the right passenger wheel off , follow the axle until it goes into the transmission (below starter motor), then look towards rear of car/axle 3 inches, look up and it there. One 8mm bolt holds it in. Twist it out, disconnect the wire from the top engine compartment. A speedo gear pulls out of the VSS. You can buy a VSS without the sppedo gear and housing cause you can screw the old housing in the new one. Vss is around $50.
The VSS is on the drivers side rear of the transmission. On some models there is a second VSS in the dashboard.
The VSS in a 2001 Ford Escape is located on the left rear side of the transmission. There is only about an inch of it that can be seen.
on the top of the differential
The VSS is located on the transmission tailshaft extension housing
The VSS vehicle speed sensor on top of the transmission is faulty.
Where is the VSS located on a 99 acura TL
The VSS is located on The transmission
The vehicle speed sensor is mounted on the transmission, but on 2000 and later models the VSS is combined with the rear axle sensor located on top of the differential. The powertrain control module uses the sensor input signal for several different engine and transmission control functions. The VSS signal also drives the speedometer on the instrument panel.
the VSS is right on top of the Transmission with a plug on top of the VSS
The VSS is for 1997 and older Rangers. 1998 and newer Rangers are not equipped with a VSS type system. The vehicle speed information comes from the antilock brake system rear wheel speed sensor according to the Haynes repair manual.
The VSS (Vehicle Speed Sensor) is located on the transmission. If the speedometer is not working, it is rarely the VSS causing the problem. I would first check fuses and the ECU
raise the vehicle, disconnect the electrcal connection from the vss. remove the mounting bolt and withdraw the vss from the transaxle case. replace sensor "O" ring.
