The Greeks made the first school/universities. Monks built them, and re wrote scripts for those who could not read. Schools have not been dated, but they were built approximately around the late 200s, early 300s.
The concept of grouping students together in a centralized location for learning has existed since Classical antiquity. Formal schools have existed at least since ancient Greece, ancient India and ancient China.
