Brown v. Board of Education happened last.
Brown v. Board of Education, (1954) overturned the "separate but equal" doctrine established in Plessy v. Ferguson, (1896). In Plessy, the Supreme Court held that racial segregation in public accommodations was constitutional, as long as the facilities were equal (which they rarely were). In Brown, the Supreme Court said separate but equal "is inherently unequal," and declared segregation in the pubic schools unconstitutional under the Fourteenth Amendment Equal Protection Clause.
