The primary instruments are basically a 3-piece band set - Acoustic guitar, Bass (standup or even washboard for the adventurous), and drums. Some groups use no percussion at all, using only a Bass to maintain the beat. And going further, some don't even use a Bass - in the early days of Folk Music, Bass lines were actually played by one of the Guitarists.
