There are so many but I will hit on the ones people are most familiar with. No serial killer list would be complete without Jack The Ripper. Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, Charles Manson, Gary Ridgeway, Richard Ramirez, Son Of Sam (David Berkowitz) and the Zodiac. It's sad to say that with the exception of Jack The Ripper, who was from London, the rest of these killers are American.
Well, some of the most notable serial killers are: Jeffery Dahmer, Ted Bundy, Andrei Chikatilo, Albert Fish, Edmund Kemper, John Wayne Gacy, Jr., Richard Speck and many, many more.
Edit: The above plus Jack the Ripper, Charles Manson, Edward Gein, Gary Ridgway, Herman Webster Mudgett, Richard Angelo, Andrew Cunanan, etc. What is especially interesting about Jack the Ripper is no one ever figured out who he was -- even more than 100 years later.
Angel Lopez over 300 victims, Elizabeth Bathory confessed to over 600 victims, Albert Fish. The moors murderers
There are so many to choose from but I will list the killers that I think made the most impact, negative of course. Ted Bundy, law student, charming and handsome, he has become the 'poster child' of serial killers. For notariety Bundy is second only to Britian's Jack The Ripper in the late 1880's. Before Bundy, serial murder was an unknown except to a few people in law enforcement. Jeffrey Dahmer, the cannibal from Milwaukee, WI, had to be one of the luckiest killers in the entire world. Before his capture Dahmer had numerous close calls with police, once with a body in his vehicle, another when a victim escaped from Dahmer's apartment, drugged and raped, only to have two policemen return him to Dahmer's 'safe keeping'. Once back at the apartment, the victim lived only minutes. Washington state's Green River Killer, Gary Leon Ridgeway is known to have killed over 60 women, mostly prostitutes from the Sea-Tac strip. But authorities believe the the total to be a much higher figure. Finally apprehended after almost two decades by DNA evidence. Ridgeway told investigators he was doing his part to clean up the streets. Denis Rader the BTK killer from Kansas also avoided capture for two decades. Danny Rollin, the Gainsville Ripper, from Gainsville Florida, killed nearly half a dozen young people in just a few months time before his capture. He was executed in Florida's Stark Prison. The Zodiac killer of California was never caught and is the subject of books and movies. And last is Aileen Wuornos, born in Michigan and executed in Florida in 2002 for the deaths of 7 men whom she robbed and then shot at close range. She claimed self-defense even though her victims were shot in the back.
