The 14th President of the United States was Franklin Pierce from March 4, 1853 to March 4, 1857. His Vice President was William King in 1853. King died 45 days into his office and Pierce did not have a Vive President from 1853-1857
William R. King from Alabama was Franklin Pierce's Vice President. Willam Rufus DeVane King was Pierce's running mate. He died six weeks after taking office on 18 April 1853, from tuberculosis. He died in Alabama before he ever made it to Washington, so Pierce never had a vice-president. Pierce served the remainder of his term without a Vice President. King was a very close personal friend of James Buchanan who was a strong candidate for the nomination . King was put on the ticket to placate Buchanan supporters.
