First, land could be acquired via the virtue and arms of the potential leader. Second, land could be acquired fortune. Third, land could be acquired via the use the arms of another. Fourth, it could be acquired through some means of inequity. Of the four methods, the first was the best method.

∙ 14y agoThe main idea is that in politics the ends justify the means. If a government is amoral and effective it is better than being moral and ineffective. Machiavelli however did not endorse amoral behavior in general, just whatever gets the job done.
