I guess that depends on what you consider a scientist. Certainly the ancient Greeks had some pretty important guys like Archimedes, but I bet if you look further back to other civilizations like, say, the Mayans, you'll probably find some there too. I don't know of any particular ones.

The st scientist was Astrolie
Nobody can possibly know- scientific study and research has been going on since ancient times. Even before the establishment of ancient civilisations, such as the Babylonian and Mesopotamian epochs and the time of Ancient Greece, early tribal peoples during the Stone and Iron Ages from cultures all over the world used to wonder why things happened as they did. They used to puzzle about the nature of the elements, and about the natural world all around them, as well as how plants and animals lived and how their bodies worked. They would be amazed at the natural world, and by phenomena such as rain, lightning and the flowing of water courses, and also at the Heavens- the night sky, the phases of the Moon, shooting stars and so on, and although they attributed much of it to having a miraculous or spiritual origin, there were some things that the more enquiring-minded of them tried to account for- gravity, the causes of sickness, the aerodynamics of birds and their own weaponry such as spears and arrows, etc. They would probably have conducted experiments to try and find out more, and developed their own ideas about why and how things worked. Even if some of the conclusions that they drew were wrong, they would have been approaching the subjects from the point of view of a scientifically enquiring mind. In view of this, it's hard to say who was the very first scientist, if indeed it was any one person and not a general trend that developed amongst early peoples as a whole- more than one Cro-Magnon person would have wondered why his hunting-axe flew through the air like it did when thrown, or why the bones of his prey fell to the ground after a meal instead of just floating in the air when it was let go of!! We can only go back as far as the surviving written recordings of the ancient Civilisations of China, the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent to ascertain who the first scientists and researchers were, and some of them remain anonymous- it is mainly Ancient Greece that is famous for having attributed established scientific and mathematical research to the work of individual people, such as Pythagoras and Archimedes, but in China and India, the names of some of their earliest scientists are recorded as well.

The ancient Egyptians were the first to demonstrate the applications of Science with their prediction and use of the annual floods of the Nile.

They followed this up with such achievements as the construction of the Pyramids and various temples. One startling feat was the raising of large stone beams of up to 200 tons! This is still a challenge on building sites today. These works demonstrate a fair knowledge of Geometry and Astronomy.

The first scientist is widely recognized as having been Thales, the Greek Ionion natural philosopher. He was the first of the Greek scientist philosophers.

He was a world traveling businessman who adapted math to nature and made a killing on the olive market to prove the point. Some of his important insights were then lost when Plato and Aristotle turned science into a study of abstractions rather than a study of nature.
