I think you are talking about Echo. Echo was cursed by the goddess Hera. One day Hera was in the woods looking for her husband, Zeus, who was cheating with the nymphs. Echo detracted her by talking. Hera then cursed her by taking away Echo's ability to speak her own words. She could only repeat the words others say.
