The land redistribution 'program' took land, often by force, from white farmers and redistributed to black farmers which has led to the near collapse of the agriculture in Zimbabwe. The problem was two fold: black farmers lacked expertise both in technique and in the business aspects of getting crops to market and they also lacked the capital to run their new farms effectively. The inability to sell crops abroad kept income low and prevented maintenance on what equipment had survived the take over.
At present the government of Zimbabwe is trying to lure white farmers back in order to reestablish the agriculture industry. In the meantime, many in Zimbabwe have been forced to take up gardening their own food.
A bigger point is that the "redistribution" of land by the Mugabe government wasn't from White Farmers to Black Farmers. Rather, it was a confiscation of white-owned land, and mostly given to political supporters of the Mugabe administration, many of whom were former rebels.
Thus, it wasn't about "fairness" or "giving the land back to the people", rather, it was a naked political ploy. As the people to whom the land was given didn't know the first thing about farming, and also that they drove away those who did (both black and white), the new owners failed to be able to farm correctly.

Zimbabwe has food shortages due to the political instability of the country and a badly governed economy: Productive farms of white Zimbabweans has been confiscated by the Mugabe-regime, and many white farmers has left the country.
The number is not of great importance - none of them are workig properly, most are not working at all, the Zimbabwean economy is in freefall. Only 20 years ago Zimbabwe was supplying much of southern Africa with food, but through stupidity it now needs aid itself.
"un" is a prefix in the word unsuccessful.
Mugabe enacted a policy of forcible dispossession of White farmers by means of a rag-tag terrorist-like group called the "War Veterans", who used violence to literally throw people off their land. "War Veterans" subsequently took over management of the farms and because of their incompetence the farms quickly became unproductive and unprofitable and could no longer therefore supply the Zimbabwe economy with essential foodstuffs. Mugabe ordered unfettered printing of new banknotes as the principal means of combatting rising prices, thus devaluing the Zimbabwe currency further and further.
That is the correct spelling for "unsuccessful."
