No, I don't think so but in some cases they cut off the tail because there's an infection and they don't want the infection to spread. With Collie and Aussies they cut off the tail when they are born. Also some dogs are born with short tails. But I personally think that you can ask your vet; he/she would be very happy to answer.

Schnauzers are born with tails and I think are still docked in some places (although not sure as I live in a country with a docking ban). I'm sure someone could correct me if I'm wrong about this
