Hots are dedicated to a specific circuit. Neutrals can be shared by other circuits. All the current in a circuit must travel through the hot. This is not always the case with the neutral. The purpose of a switch is to stop the potential voltage from being applied to the load. With the switch on the neutral side of the load this condition is not fulfilled. The intent is to minimize the potential for an electric shock. The neutral wire is supposedly zero or near zero potential, with both sides of the 220 line "hot" as compared to the center tapped neutral.
If everyone follows the Uniform Building Code there will be significantly fewer electrocutions.

The purpose of a fuse or circuit breaker is to stop current flow in the case of a short circuit. If you didn't stop the current from flowing, it could cause a fire, harm a person, damage the equipment, etc.

If you were to accidentally connect the live (or "hot") wire to any grounded object, current will flow due to the potential that exists between the live and ground. So you need to put a fuse somewhere. If you were to put the fuse in the ground or neutral wire, that would protect you in the case that the hot touches the specific ground or neutral wire that is fused, but there are many alternate paths to ground such as through your body and to the earth. Therefore it's safest to put the fuse in the one live wire rather than the many potential paths to ground.

Live wires carry current and our main purpose of using fuse is to break the circuit , whenever there will be large current flows through it . That's why fuse is connected in the live wire rather than the neutral wire...

Alternative Answer

A short circuit fault to earth or ground will bypass the neutral wire so, if the fuse were to be installed in the neutral, it would not operate.

A short circuit between line and neutral would remain dangerous, if the fuse was in the neutral, because the circuit would still be 'hot' up to the point of fault.

For a circuit breaker to work properly it needs the circuits full load amps to travel through it. It can be used as a disconnect device also, this is why it is at the front of the circuit. Voltage from bus bar through the breaker and then connected to the circuit wire. If the breaker was on the neutral side of the circuit and the breaker was used for a disconnect, it would shut the load off but all the wiring ahead of it would still have the voltage potential there. Touching any part of that circuit and ground would give you a shock even though the breaker was shut off.
