So that they can be taken out if any water gets into the trunk, and while in place they stop grouind water getting in.
See the following in this discussion list: Why is the water leaking into the frame well of your 1997 seabring convertible? Why is water leaking into the frame well of your 1997 Chrysler Sebring convertible? How do you unclog the rain water drain that is draining into the car? Where are the drain holes on a 97 Chrysler Sebring convertible?
remove the plugs from the drainage holes located in front of the rear tire wells
If it is a convertible the drain holes are full of crap, they are located under the rocker panels. They are usually bent shut when using a jack or lift in the wrong location.
It may, the drain holes are critical in sun roofs and all automobile doors.
the fender probably fills up with water. You need to make sure that the drain holes under the car are open. this shorts out the motors. then you need to access the motor and have it rebuilt or find a used one.
I have experienced this problem. On the underside of the car, on both sides, running from wheelwell to wheelwell is a weld. There are several holes in the weld that become plugged and do not allow water to escape. You can feel where the weld seperates with your hand. I use a short piece of a coat hanger to open the holes. Make sure that the drain plugs in the rear fenderwells are out. With the convertible water that runs down the top has no where to go. It will accumulate in the fenderwells and then seep into the vehicle if the two rubber plugs are not removed to allow the water to drain out.
There are ten drain holes, five on each side of the car. They are in the ridge, on the bottom of the car, between the front and rear tires. It is the ridge that you would jack the car up on. They are very skinny, so to clean them, you could use a knife (butter knife) and then blow them out. They are in the inside of the ridge, so they are only visible looking outward. They are at an angle. The rear ones on each side could be pinched shut from jacking up the car.
On my 97 convertible there are rubber plugs in the front rear fenderwells down at the bottom. I found this out the hard way because the rear floor was wet when the water could not escape. How stupid is it that plugs are in there in the first place.
there are two on each side of the car one is in front of the car door under the lip and the 2nd is behind the door opening under the lip
== == == == * Heater core leaking? * Evaporator drain plugged? * Windshield seal? * Door seal? * Water backed up from clogged drain holes
There should be rubber plugs in the low spot of the trunk and the fender wells. Look underneath, you can just push them up and out of the holes.
The heater coil is defective My 99 convertible did this, fried my amp under the seat and blew my speakers and stereo. the problem ended up being that the weep holes in the body under the rockers were pinched shut. I had recently had the fender replaced and the weep hole was right where the jack goes. Took a screw driver and opened them back up.
