This is very simple. Paper, hard plastics, and cardboard can be recycled. Soft plastics has to be throw away. Paper or cardboard that has been used to clean or eat is composted.

Also you should recycle things like paper, hard plastics and cardboard BECAUSE if we don't, all our recyclable stuff such as paper and cardboard will be put to landfill, and we don't want that!!!

All plastics can be recycled.

But there may be nobody in your area who can recycle all the plastics available. Recycling of plastic wrap, for example, is possible, but as it is usually used for wrapping food, it is often contaminated. So it has to be cleaned first. This adds another step to the process and adds to the cost of recovery.

Styrofoam can be recycled. Australia, for example, has collection points in all the capital cities. However they only welcome fruit and vegetable crates. They don't want the small polystyrene trays that have held food, and they charge to accept other kinds of styrofoam packaging.

Not everything is recycled. Only materials such as paper, milk cartons , card boards etc. They are recycled for re use. Example. Milk cartons get recycled so that they can be made again as milk cartons or any other new thing. It is like a cycle.

Certain plastics are not actually certain. Take the example of a ketchup bottle--it is constructed of several layers of different polymers, each designed to impart a special quality to the container. Some are flexible while others are difficult to puncture. Such a mix has little recycle value because it is cost prohibitive to separate the material.

That brings up another reason: The market. If there is no demand for the product (this holds for recyclable materials, too) the market will not support it. Take Styrofoam as an example. Styrene plastic is easily recyclable but, when you turn it into a foam, it simply takes up too much space in the truck to make the load worth more than the fuel and transportation costs to carry it to a recycler. It is cheaper then, to carry it to the nearest landfill.
