∙ 11y agoThey were mostly shocked, yet angry at the same time. At this time, England was a Protestant country. The King being a Protestant should have married another Protestant. Also at this time, England disliked France quite a bit. Henrietta Maria was both Catholic and French, which was twice as bad. Eventually this resulted in Charles having his head chopped off by his own people.
