If you have read the Maximum Ride series you will see that Max and Fang's relationship is deeply troubled. In the books most recently published you will find that their relationship fades as a new character comes into the story.

they're so lovy dovey but in book 7, max is more with dylan than fang and fang is with maya (max clone) than max.
