Johnny was never in the right atmosphere to be reading quality books, or even any books at all!
Johnny and Ponyboy have always shared this type of soft, sensitive personality. They enjoy life and have a special way of looking at it. Its beauties and colors, all of which some might not see in the same persupective. This explaines why they enjoy and relate to :
Robert Frost ( Nothing Gold Can Stay) :
Meaning that when all things ( creations) start out, thay start out as gold. It's 'natures's first hue' . You must cherish each moment and make the most out of it.
For example; a child. No child stays a child forever.
" Dawn goes down today" : Nothing is eternal !!
" Her early leafs a flower but not only so and our when leaf subsides of leaf so Eden sank to greif: Beauty can be taken away in a second. Otherwise meaning the flower ( or creation) will bloom to its fullest then start to subside to nothing. Be thankful and match your steps.
Ponyboy and Johnny lear that good things in life do not last forever. This poem also REFERS TO SUNSETS. Pony adores sunsets and ever since he's intoduced his descrptions for a sunset, Johnny had started to admire them aswell.
