if it smokes just when started and then quits smoking, it may have to much oil in it, check oil level, if it keeps on smoking then you have a ring problem what TYPE of oil you have in it, When they are shipped there is oil injected into the bores through the spark plug holes, this will burn off for a while, so if it's new then it's no problem.
They did not they bought Murray and have since closed it down. Most all B & S stuff is now made in China.

I found it. The Norma Co. made them for JCP, which was bought by the Murry Co. which went out of business and some of its assets were bought by Briggs and Straton.
just bought a craftsman snow blower yesterday. 3 manufacturers, MTD, Briggs and Stratton and Husqvarna. was told MTD 357cc was chinese can`t even find a torque # for it, Briggs and Stratton 305cc and 342cc made in USA, they had no Husqvarna so i don`t know about motors. was told Briggs and Stratton were not only making the motors but the whole machine, on the Pro series i bought which has the Briggs motor, if you look on the chassis it says built in the USA. This information i was told at a Sears store. hope its correct.
If it is a brand new engine take it back to where you bought it. Because if you do anything to you will void your warranty.
they were bought out by Briggs
What make of tractor? The best place to look would be in the box with the tractor when you bought it.
Put fresh gas and stabilizer in it, and prime it with the red prime button. I just bought one from a guy who couldn't start it. Now that I know it will start, I will change the oil and maybe put a new spark plug in it.
John Deere did not create the Waterloo Boy tractor, they bought the company in 1918 after they failed to invent their own reasonably priced tractor.
Replacing tractor parts are easy if you look in the right place. In order to replace parts, contact the company you bought your tractor from and ask them.

I used 10 W 30 for 15 years in my 13 1/2 Briggs & Stratton and it still runs like new It's a 1997 Sears. I just replaced the top gear on the starter because of age, it broke in half, but had do to wear on it and replaced my muffler gasket, that it besides changing blades once and the belt for the blades. Not bad for 15 years on a $1,500 lawn mower, and I thanks God all the time, because someone else bought it new and the started didn't work so they brought it back and I got it as reconditioned for $417.oo, God is awesome!
