There are a lot of things going on inside your engine and before it warms up it isn't producing reliable horsepower. If your car won't run until it warms up it means that the fuel air mixture is not rich enough. A colder engine requires a richer mixture. Older cars did it with a choke on the carb. Newer cars do it by the computer adjusting the fuel/air mixture and engine timing to until it watms up. If your car is mid 1990's or later you probably have a problem with a sensor.
it needs to warm up. let it run for a couple minutes
Auto experts today say that you should warm up the car no more than 30 seconds before you start driving in winter. "The engine will warm up faster being driven," the EPA and DOE explain.
No, but its a lot better for it.
Yes, the car owners need to warm up their vehicles. Many car owners are compromising the performance of their vehicles and shortening the life of the vehicles by failing to warm up their vehicles.
How long it takes a car heater to warm up depends on the temperature outside. In cold weather the heater can take several minutes to warm up.
You should never run your car when it is not warm enough. More than likely you need a transmission fluid change, and the filter as well. Which is quite easy, but I would advise you to never run your car until it is fully warm enough for the car to be driveable.
Warm up
your engine will never warm up properly. it will decrease gas mileage. engine will not run right. just get the right thermo, and replace it.
if your car cannot warm itself up when your not in it, then yes it would be a good idea to let it warm up a few minutes before driving.
I have this installed in my car, and I'm in Minnesota/Wisconsin so its GREAT that I can warm my car up before I leave, or keepy my car on if i just have to run in and out somewhere rather then leaving the keys in the car or turning the car off and right back on.
There is no set amount of gas that is used to warm up a car. Different cars use different amounts of gas.
Engines are designed to run at their best at a certain operating temp. Until they reach that point they not run well. The thermostat is there to achieve that temp. in the minimum time , if your car takes a long time to warm up, maybe your thermostat is faulty or not working at all.
