Why does the Android OS on your LG smart phone use so much battery?

Because the "Kernel" on your phone was set to the safest settings but "Safest"settings does not mean that they will save your battery.
Solution...Rooting your phone you can flash a different kernel that would give you better batt life. Rooting is the equivalent of jailbreaking an iPhone. Search online with the model of your LG and rooting and read a bit about it and to see if you might be able to do it yourself some rooting is easy for a person that has no experience do it but some others need some knowledge because you can damage your phone to the point that you need a new one.
