WELL, LET ME SEE, MABE ITS BECAUSE LEFT WING GOVERNMENTS ARE RUN BY COMMUNISTS AND RIGHT WING GOVERMENTS ARE RUN BY CAPITALIST. Well, I would have to agree with the answer above. Its a stupid question I'm afraid. (yes there are stupid questions, my friend, albeit what teachers say) I would point out something here. Fascist/Capitalist governments such as America's love money and place a very high emphasis on it, while Left wing governments (Viet Nam, Laos, China, etc.) disagree with this opinion, and place the emphasis on equality of welath for all, and not just the rich. That's one person's opinion; here's mine. That capitalism and its opponents is at the centre of the argument is beyond dispute. Capitalism and communism have two distinctly differing views on economics - capitalism uses wealth generation through the activities of individuals, known as entrepreneurs, to build up a market of supply and demand which has to be carefully balanced usually through the activities of national central banks such as the US Federal Reserve and the Bank of England. Communism, on the other hand, utilises a central plan to determine the supply side which is known as the Command Economy. Both models have worked in practice but the command economy is limited by its need to trade across boundaries with capitalist economies, hence it needs a readily convertible currency which the command economy does not have by its very nature. Hence major countries that possessed command economies, such as Russia and China, have renounced them in favour of the capitalist model. (A bit simplistic this and I'm sure an economics student may be able to come up with a better explanation.) To go back to the central point, the entrepreneurs and capitalists that run the capitalist economies worldwide see any move away from capitalism as a threat. As they have the financial clout to back any political movement or figure that supports the system that ensures their wealth, this ensures that all the capitalist societies have a political class that supports the wealth creation ideals of capitalism. That's not the whole story though. There is also a religious element to the argument that underpins the financial one. Even though the United States has no state religion, its citizens are almost invariably Christian and have one of the highest proportions of churchgoers to the general population in the world. As a result its politicians and political systems are generally supportive of Christianity. However, communism brooks no interference from any religious group - Karl Marx, founder of communism, is often quoted as stating that religion is 'the opium of the people'. Hence people of any religion in the communist regimes have frequently been targets for persecution, suffering imprisonment - even death - and places of worship destroyed. Not surprisingly, the Christians (however nominal) who make up the establishment of American society wish not only to avoid this but actively to oppose it. In a nutshell, these then are the motives that lead successive United States governments and their allies to resist communism.

Left wing indicates a marking of one's belief system as it were on a chart with the other end being right wing or conservative.
