Construction of the Washington Monument began before the Civil War, and they stopped building it during the war. After the war, they continued construction but used a different shade of bricks. that's why

∙ 9y agoThe Washington Monument is differently colored because the marble came from different quarries. From bottom to top, marble was quarried first from Texas; Maryland; Sheffield, Massachusetts; Cockeysville, Maryland.
