If it is not actually choking, there are some other possibilities. If it is a quick, course, wet, gagging sound that only happens from every few days to every few hours, then it may likely be heart worms or congestive heart failure. Even if those are not the case, it is usually a symptom of some sort of respiratory distress. Your vet should be contacted.

∙ 12y agoIf it hasn't been vaccinated for bordetella bronchiseptica your dog probably has kennel cough which is easily treated with a course of antibiotics.
