Several things could cause the vehicle's transmission to malfunction as you have described. You are right in wanting to retrieve the codes for diagnostic purposes. I own a '92 Lebaron 3.0 convertible with the A604 (4 speed automatic) and the codes can be pulled by turning the ignition key on and off 5 times within 5 seconds. Just on, off-not the run position. Count the number of blinks of the "check engine" light. For example if the light blinks twice then there is a pause and then it blinks three times that would be code 23. Blink, blink....pause....blink, blink, blink. Some very good information on all aspects of these Chrysler Lebarons including the meaning of diagnostic codes can be found on a web sight called Allpar.com which is very helpfull.
