After the prophet Joseph Smith died, Brigham Young became the second president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). Brigham Young lead the Mormons west and guided them in settling what is now known as Utah. He is known for being a polygamist (having multiple wives), a practice that the LDS church no longer supports. Under his direction Salt Lake City was constructed, as well as a number of temples in the western United States (Salt Lake City Temple is the most well known among them). He is also noteworthy as the first governor of Utah. Up until his death he was one of the most revered of men for his faith in Joseph Smith and truth of the restored gospel.
