I think its because he disproved the spontaneous generation theory...He did this with experiments in swan necked flasks, when the liquid in the flask remained sterile because the pathogens from the air were trapped in the nexk of the flask. I'm not sure though so you might want to double check.

Louis Pasteur was the man who discovered that the majority of Infectious Diseases are caused by germs. Before his discovery, doctors were not equipped to treat most illnesses because of not knowing what was responsible for causing them.
