It's not "giving it away" per se, rather offering a free upgrade for Windows 7 and 8 users. But beware of the pitfalls if you decide to upgrade because there may not be a way to return to your former operating system should things turn out not to your liking. Personally I am staying with Win 7 because it works and nothing is wrong with it and I don't need all the latest bells and whistles to perform my internet obligations.
