Queensland probably does not have any more days of sunshine than other states in Australia. However, it is perceived to have more days of sunshine per year than the other states because it has a more temperate and consistent climate which is generally warmer. This, together with its brilliant beaches means that many people spend a lot of time outdoors enjoying the sunshine. Both the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast are very popular holiday places.

It does not rain every day in Queensland. The weather pattern of 2010-2011 is very unusual, and the result of a La Nina which has brought a great deal of wet weather to Australia's east coast. This phenomenon occurs less frequently than its opposite, the El Nino, which brings drought and dry conditions to Australia. The last time Queensland received such a soaking was back in 1973-74.
