The technique of pointillism developed by the impressionists is a direct appropriation of the mechanics of optics (ie:RGB).
Even though many refer to this technique as a separate form of Impressionism, the only difference in the method of painting between the Impressionists and the Pointillists is in the strokes of the brush. While the first painted in a freestyle, the second were more purists reducing the strokes to mere dots, but both produced the perceived colors in their paintings by painting mainly with primary colors, wich would give the "impression" of a composite color (just like your regular home printer does).
