AnswerJewelry wasn't invented as a means of decorating your body, it was a way to carry your money around. If you had a job where things would fall out of your pockets, like being a pirate, your gold was far more secure if you had it made into a ring or an earring and wore it. Gold's been a form of money since it was discovered. Gold is soft enough that a storekeeper could shave off a few grains' worth with a sharp knife. Later on, someone noticed that you look good when you wear jewelry, but that wasn't what it was for at the start. (You want to know how long jewelry has been made from gold? Exodus 32 in the Old Testament tells us the story of the Golden Calf--which was made from golden earrings.)

Today, you can't spend earring shavings. Modern jewelry is made from gold because it's pretty and people like it.

Does jewelry HAVE to be made from gold? No. My wedding band is made of titanium, and silver jewelry is extremely popular.

AnswerBecause it is the least reactive metal. it does not oxidize with the air or react with water, so therefore is perfect to wear all the time in any conditions

Jewelry has been made of gold for thousands of years. From the first discoveries of gold in ancient times, its beauty and the ease with which it could be worked have inspired craftsmen, who have regularly used it to create symbols of wealth and power. Today, gold is still treasured as a basic form of saving in many countries( like China and India), but there's no doubt it exists primarily as a decorative material - jewelery is the important cornerstone of the gold market, annually accounting for all newly-mined gold it to create jewelry, not just for adornment, but as symbols of wealth and power.
