What would you like to do?
The light is on to tell you to go get to codes scanned. (A more detailed description is available in your Owners Manual.) Many auto parts stores will scan codes for free.

I have a 1996 Caprice, I assume it's the same method. You turn the key to the "on" position. Fully depress the accelerator three times within 5 seconds. Then turn the key off.… When you restart the car, it should be reset. this did not work the light is on because there is a problem you can unhook battery for a few mins if the light comes back on after take it to a mechanic and have it scanned for trouble codes The response "press pedal 3 times" is incorrect, however, this is how to reset the CHANGE OIL light on the Caprice. CHANGE OIL lights don't exist on the Camaro. Read what he said below~ O'Riley will look at it too, I'm sure those new AutoZone places will too. But you might want to get it fixed not just unhook the battery. Could be just a misfire. Just take it to any AutoZone and ask them to read your codes (they hook up a code reader which gives them/you an idea of your problem) and reset you ecu/computer its a free service Could just be your gas cap O2 sensors tune up or a hundred other and worse things.
There are 3 usual ways: Disconnect the negative battery cable for about 5 minutes.Remove the ECM fuse(or fuses) for about the same amount of time. The best way is to take you…r vehicle to a repair shop, dealer or some auto parts (Auto Zone for one) and have them plug in their scan tool, pull any codes, then clear them. If you don't repair the cause of the codes, the light will come back on after a while. It is common for the check engine light to come on as result of gas cap not tightened after fill up. Check to see that it is tight, and drive for a while. The computer should reset after next fill up.
Try this, no guarantees but I once had a ford that after I disconnected the battery for a minute or so the check engine light would go off. Good luck You have to disconnect th…e negative cable. Here are some easy instructions: In order to reset the "service engine soon" light in the Venture, the negative battery cable must be removed for a couple of minutes. Unfortunately in the Venture, the engine compartment is rather tight, so you must remove a few things just to get to the battery. Here are the steps you should follow:Find a basic tool set Tool set I carry around in the car with me usuallyOpen the hood View of the 2003 CHevy Venture with hood openedRemove the top engine cover located just under the windshield on the passenger side. Top cover near passenger side window covering batteryRemove the bolts holding the long bar located over the battery to the body frame. Be careful, do not remove the fuse box from the bar or disconnect any of the wires. Removing of the bar holding the fuse box involves removing 3 boltsPosition the bar and fuse box below the battery to allow easier access to the negative battery terminal. Negative battery terminal of the Venture is in a tight spotRemove the negative battery terminal from the battery and sit to the side . Here is how everything looks disassembledWait 2-5 mins.Reconnect the negative terminal to the battery. After positioning the bar and box away from any moving parts, start the van to make sure that the "Service Engine Soon" light is no longer illuminated. (You don't want to put it all back and then find out the light is still on)Once confirmed, replace the bar and top engine cover in reverse order of removal. If the problem that caused the light to come on was not resolved though, the light will probably come back on again. You should go to a local Autozone--they will read the codes from your computer for free to give you a better idea why the light is on in the first place to determine your next step.
Answer Many GM vehicles have a box near the battery with a bunch of fuses. Pull the cover so that you can see the fuses, look for a button that says "oil" or som…ething similar. With the key on and the engine NOT running, push and hold the button for about 10 seconds. If yours is different, look in the operators manual for instructions.
Answer scan tool from your parts store cost about 50.00-100.00 or disconect battery for 20 secons

Answer . Have vehicle scanned to determine the problem and have codes cleared
A malfunction with the engines emission control system has been detected and requires service / repair . If the light stays on , and the problem doesn't correct itse…lf after using the vehicle a few times , have it checked out . ( As long as the light isn't blinking , which indicates a engine cylinder misfire , and no other warning lights are on , and your engine temperature and oil pressure are O.K. etc. )
unhook the positive on the battery for 5 min. This should reset your check engine light if it doesnt then you still have issues.
disconnect the battery for 30 seconds
It is located in the back by # 6 cylinder on top of the motor between the heads.
Leaving the gas cap loose on a 1999 Chevrolet venture will it make the service engine soon light come on?
yes, and also, using the wrong gas cap could also cause the light to come on. It may even cause your engine to stall
Water and electrnics don't mix well. Its possible that you have just got water in some plugs or sensors, this is more prone if pressure cleaning. If not dried out it can… lead to corrosion and further problems down the track. You need to check all connections for water penetration and dry it out. That is the best place to start.
Hi, The first thing you would need to do is find out what is causing the light to come on. In order to do that, you need to connect the van to a scan tool or code reader to …find out what Diagnostic Test Codes (DTC) are stored in the computer. These will tell you what happened to cause the light to come on in the first place. Once you have the code or codes, then you will have an idea of what happened and what steps are needed to repair the problem and turn the light off. Most scan tools and code readers can turn the light off, but if the problem is not repaired, then it is very likely that the light will just come back on in a short period of time. To find the meaning of the codes, you can search the Internet for the exact code to find out what your next step would be. I have provided a link to a site that lists many of the codes for this van. Good Luck, Greg
Hi, This could be one of hundreds of issues with the engine or emission system. You will need to connect a scan tool to your van so that it will read any stored codes in t…he engine computer. That will tell you what the issue is and then it can be addressed. Good Luck
Disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes to a half an hour that should clear it if not get a obd 2 and plug it in there should be a connector under the drivers side dash pl…ug it in it will tell ya what to do
The service engine soon light means there is regular scheduledmaintenance due on the vehicle. Oil change, tire rotation, transmission service, etc. All this is spelled out in y…our ownersmanual. This is different than the Check Engine light which meansthe ECU has detected a problem with the emissions system. You haveto manually reset the light according to the instructions in youowners manual. Disconnecting the battery will not reset the light.
